Bowls: Cookstown continue winning streak

The Donegal men have made great strides in recent years and currently sit third in the league.

Their trip to Cookstown was a step to much for them and the gulf in class was evident from the early exchanges in the match. Mark Wilson and his rink of Thomas McAleavey, William Lennox and Johnny Shepherd were scoring big counts against Daniel O’Kane on rink 6. The Cookstown rink was in smashing form and recorded a 30-11 rink win.

Damien McElroy, Gary Scott, Chris McKnight and Tommy Johnston faced the Letterkenny rink skipped by John Quinn.

Tommy Johnston and Chris McKnight started well and built good heads with some fine front end bowling. Scott and McElroy when called upon kept the pressure on Quinn and his rink.

John Quinn played some wonder bowls to save Letterkenny on numerous times and kept the final score respectable with Cookstown winning 24-16.

Liam McHugh, Trevor Vance, Damien McCracken and Marc McCracken were pitted against Colin Mabon. McHugh and his rink put in a good solid display and where never really in any trouble.

Good front end play by the ever reliable father and son duo Marc and Damien McCracken and with Vance and McHugh on good form sealed a comfortable 24-11 win.

Eric Sands, Philip Wallace, Barry Brannigan and Ashley Wright faced the Letterkenny rink skipped by James Marshall.

Letterkenny gained their only point with victory in this rink match even though they where pushed all the way by Sands and his rink who lost narrowly 14-17.

This was another fantastic victory, 13 wins from 13 and it seems to be a two horse race between Cookstown and Ballymoney for the league title with five games left to play and Cookstown to travel to Ballymoney.
