Still undefeated after eight league matches, Cookstown knew that a Portglenone side with several new signings would be dangerous opponents.

Former Ballymoney player, now of Portglenone, Stephen Smyth faced the Cookstown rink skipped by Liam McHugh, Eric Sands, Barry Brannigan and Ashley Wright.

On rink two Damien McElroy and his rink of Trevor Vance, William Lennox and Chris McKnight came up against a strong Portglenone rink skipped by Roy Hunter with Chris Jones at third.

As in McElroy’s previous two league rinks match his rink got off to a slow start and Portglenone seized an early lead.

The Cookstown rink fought back into the match and Portglenone seemed rattled and the Cookies rallied to a brilliant 30-22 victory on a difficult rink.

Rink three for Cookstown Mark Wilson, Thomas McAleavey, Tommy Johnston and Jonathan Shepard face the wee port rink of Eamon McCann.

Mark and his rink in recent weeks have led the way for Cookstown, though found the going tough and struggled for long periods on a tricky rink losing this match 24-13.

Rink four saw Colin Hogg and his rink of Philip Wallace, Damien McCracken and Marc McCracken face ex-Cookstown player Sean Quinn.

Hogg and his rink produced a good display against the Portglenone rink though ex-Cookstown player Sean Quinn was in great form for Portglenone and saved them on numerous occasions.

Though with the pressure mounting Quinn could only do so much and Colin steered his rink to a 21-18 win.

This was a great display from Cookstown playing against a good Portglenone side, which leaves the Cookies undefeated after nine league matches.
