Bowls: Cookstown get the better of Ballycastle

Liam McHugh, Eric Sands, Barry Brannigan and Ashley Wright faced Ballycastles Joe McCarry. Liam and his rink where in awesome form from the start and after six ends raced into a remarkable 18-0 lead.

Fine play from lead right through to skip saw the Cookies coast to a 30-16 win.

Damien McElroy, Sean Quinn, Michael Trimby and Chris McKnight who have yet to taste league defeat this year came crashing down to earth with a lacklustre display. It all went wrong for McElroy and his men from the first end losing a sloppy count of five.

Things didn’t improve much, though credit to the Ballycastle rink who performed well and ran out 27-13 winners.

Colin Hogg, Trevor Vance, Damien McCracken and Marc McCracken like Liam McHugh’s rink blew the seasiders away in the early stages of the match.

Yet again father and son duo Marc and Damien McCracken where in great form with an array of fine bowls.

Ballycastle kept their heads up, and though heavily behind in the match stopped the Cookies from winning on a heavier footing. Great rink display saw Colin and his rink win 29-12.

Mark Wilson, Thomas McAleavey, William Lennox and Johnny Shepherd faced Ballycastle’s D Hayes. This rink match was evenly contested and after 8 ends the score was 4-4.

Mark and his rink found it hard to shake off Ballycastle’s Hayes and his rink. Though the Cookies persistence paided off and after 13 ends they held control of this match. Cookstown finished this match 24-12 victors.

This helped Cookstown to a 6-1 victory overall.

Next up for Cookstown is newly promoted Limavady on 13th June.
