Bowls: Dunbarton continue to charge forth toward Senior Division title

There was only ever going to be one winner but the main question was whether or not the locals could garner all seven points. The hosts cruised to a comfortable 53 shot success, lifting maximum points in the process.

Top rink of the night was skipped by DJ Wilson as his four thumped their opponents by 19 shots. Colleagues Conor McCartan and Andy Hughes, led their rinks to double figure victories. Only Myles Greenfield had to battle hard for his point but a strong finish resulted in a nine shot win.

Rink 1 J Moffatt, M Merritt, P Convery, DJ Wilson up 34-15

DJ’s men started with a count of four on the opening end and from then on there was only going to be one result. A count of six on end six and a further five on end ten and already the hosts had opened up an 18-5 lead at the midpoint. Over the second half, it was plain sailing as the home rink chalked up a fine 19 shot success. Lead Jack Moffatt had a super game.

Rink 2 C Mulholland, J Magennis, M Trainor, M Greenfield up 25-16

Skip Myles and his front three had to battle hard for their point and it was only over the final few ends that they felt safe. After the first five, it was the North Belfast bowlers that had started the brighter leading 4-7. By the midpoint the hosts had poked their noses in front at 10-9 and it was all to play for. By end 15, Myles’ four had opened up a five shot lead at 17-12 but with three ends to play, their lead was narrowed to just two shots. The home four held their nerve to finish with aplomb, scoring 4,1,2 for a hard earned nine shot win.

Rink 3 C Trainor, G Moore, G McElroy, C McCartan up 30-17

Within three ends this game was all over bar the shouting as Conor’s excellent rink began with scores of 4,1,5. Ahead 12-7 at half-way, the locals put their foot on the accelerator and finished the game as a contest scoring 5,3,2,1 to set up a 13 shot win.

Rink 4 R McElroy, T Bell, S Adamson, A Hughes up 25-13

Skip Andy and his teamm-ates led from start to finish and were never in trouble. A 7-2 lead after five ends was extended to 14-5 after ten ends. During the second half, the hosts continued to increase their lead and by the conclusion of the 21 ends had eased home by 12 shots. A straightforward win for Andy’s men.
