Kyle made up for the disappointment of missing out in the final of the World Cup singles in Australia in March by becoming the first Irish player to win the title since Whitehead’s Stephen Moran lifted the trophy 13 years ago.

Having got through a group which included Guernsey’s Gary McFarlane, England’s Ryan Atkins and Andy Docter (Netherlands), Kyle saw off the challenge of Northern Ireland’s Alistair Coleman to set up an intriguing final with Scotland’s Martin Williamson.

The momentum was with Kyle and he blazed to a 12-2, 8-4 success in the WIBC showpiece contest.

“I’m delighted with the victory,” Kyle told the News Letter. “It was a difficult three or four days and it’s really a tough tournament to win. It’s hard to believe Stephen’s win was back in 2003. So it makes it a bit extra special to get over the finish line this time.”
