Bowls: Success for Trainor brothers at All Saints Tullylish Pairs Tournament

Four section nights were held from Monday to Thursday with eight pairs brought back on Friday night for the overall finals.

Emerging victorious from a stiff week of competition was the St Anthony’s pair, brothers Martin and Sean Trainor who defeated the Cookstown pairing of Clark Hill and Aaron Ward.

There was little doubt that the Trainor brothers were deserved winners as they were in outstanding form throughout the competition and in the final, Hill/Ward had simply no answer to the precise bowling from the brothers. Indeed, the pair that gave them the biggest scare on finals night was their other two brothers Chris and Ciaran Trainor who they edged out at the quarter final stage.

Beaten semi finalists were two more brothers, David and William Morrison from Ahoghill and last years winning skip Stephen McKinley from Ulster Transport BC who teamed up with clubmate Billy Johnston.

The other three beaten quarter finalists were Joan and Wesley Cairns from Eglantine Parish, Finbar and Ann Polin, St Johns Gilford and George and Andy Morrison from Ahoghill.

In a strange twist of fate on finals night, the first four names pulled out of the hat were Martin & Sean Trainor to face their own brothers Chris and Ciaran Trainor and then David and William Morrison to face their father and brother George and Andy Morrison!

Yet again the tournament proved to be a big success and the club were congratulated by West Down Zone convenor Cecil Dillon. Irish Bowling Association Harold Massey also thanked the club for their efforts and offered his congratulations on a well run tournament.
