Big dates for All Saints Boxing Club

ALL Saints Boxing Club is preparing for two big dates as its season comes towards its close.

The first of them comes on May 14 in a joint initiative between the Cushendall Road club and Patrick Pearse's GAA Club in Kilrea.

It will see six members of the GAA club take on six novice members of the Ballymena club in special bouts aimed at giving the would-be boxers their first steps in the ring.

There will also be four other bouts featuring four of All Saints' more established boxers – Vinny Esler, Joel Scullion, Malachy McKernan and Niall McKernan.

The event will raise funds for both clubs and will also act as a warm-up for All Saints for their annual gala shows, on Saturday, May 22, in Leighinmohr House Hotel.

Some 27 tables have already been sold and a handful still remain available for what is always an excellent night of boxing and entertainment.

Among the All Saints boxers in action that night are Commonwealth Games hopeful Steven Donnelly, recent Irish Youth runner-up Joel Scullion, Gary Miskelly and Vinny Esler, while a number of other boxers who fought in the recent Ulster Senior finals will also be on the line-up.

Outside the ring, there will be plenty going on, including fund-raising auctions which will be of interest to many sports fans, not simply boxing followers.

Among the lots will be a signed Ulster rugby shirt and a Northern Ireland shirt signed by NI-based Manchester United brothers Jonny and Corry Evans.

There will also be a signed Manchester United shirt from a few seasons back, featuring the signatures of such stars as Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand, along with former goalkeeping legend Harry Gregg.

Telephone bids will also be accepted by the club for these items and bids can be made by contacting any All Saints official. Look out for more details closer to the event.
