Boxing Club move into new premises

BANBRIDGE ABC literally got a new lease of life recently with the move to St Patricks Hall Ballymoney Hill.

The spacious, well equipped premises opened its doors to the first excited group of boxers on Monday 1st October and business has been booming ever since.

St Patrick’s Hall is a long standing landmark in Banbridge and has served a variety of purposes.

Interestingly enough it has in past times been the showcase for international boxing and many people will remember with excitement the glory days of Bunty Adamson, Des Lennon, Eamon McCusker just to mention a few. The club has plans to relive a few of these memories over the course of the next year and welcomes past and present ambitious boxers.

- Training for carded boxers takes place on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 6.30-8pm. Boxing for all beginners takes place on Tuesday from 6.30-7.30pm.

- Two new initiatives will provide boxing type fitness training for a range of adults – Philip Stevenson has launched his boxing and circuits class for adults on Thursday at 7-8pm and also on Saturday mornings from 10am until 11am. Just turn up ready for action, but make sure you have your water bottle, you are going to need it!

Shane Grant launches his ‘walk in’ type ‘fighting fit’ session in the coming weeks which will also cater for with personal training. Once again just come along, visit the premises and book into any of Shane’s sessions.

A new men’s’ group will be launched in the coming weeks with activities for over 50’s. Follow the Boxing Club on Facebook on Banbridgeabc where details of all activities on in the Club will be posted.

- Adrianna McMullan was the recent reciprocate of an Ingram Bursary at the Banbridge District Sports Junior Awards and was commended as a nominee for Sports Woman of the Year.

Adrianna is the current National Champion and she hopes to encourage lots of other girls to come along to the Club and enjoy the sport that has made Katie Taylor a household name.

- The next big event that the Club will host is the Barney Savage Memorial Show which will be held in the Coach on Friday November 9, 2012.

At the show Banbridge will showcase a range of boxers and this as always will be a cracking night of boxing.
