BOXING: Rochesters host bouts

A total of 152 boxers weighed in, and on Saturday, 42 bouts were contested in the club gym with a further 26 bouts contested the next day.

The finals will be held, again in the club gym this coming Sunday from 11am and anyone wishing to come and have a great days entertainment and watch a great standard of amateur boxing will be most welcome and admission is £2.

Rochesters ABC was opened in August 2013 by the current IBF Super bantamweight world champion, Carl Frampton and in doing so became the first boxing club in the Waterside area of the city for over 30 years.

The club is situated on the 2nd floor of the Ebrington Business Centre just off the Glendermott Road and new members are always most welcome.

Meanwhile Dungiven boxer Eamonn O’Kane has his biggest fight of his professional career this Saturday night.

O’Kane will box at perhaps the most famous and historic boxing venues in the world on Saturday night in New York as he faces off against slick Bahamanian, Cuban trained, Tureano Johnson in an eliminator fight for a world title.

Should ‘King Kane’ claim victory, a shot at the IBF middleweight world title - probably the most prestigious title in boxing - will be secured.

His fight with Tureano Johnson will be shown live on BoxNation.

“The fight in New York is a final eliminator for a World title so my full focus is on beating Johnson and then going on to fight and win a World title,” he said.

“It is an historic venue and it will be great to say I fought and won at Madison Square Garden. But my aim from day one was to become a World champion and I would fight for that in my garage at home or here in New York.

“This is a huge opportunity for me and it is one I am prepared to take.”
