Braid boxer Chris pits his skills against American team

Braid ABC Boxer Chris Richmond will be boxing against Washington, USA, this week participate in a trans-Atlantic boxing show called the Belfast Beltway.

Chris received the call up to box after impressing the selectors over the recent months.

The event will be attended by some well-known politicians as well as many well-known local celebrities and boxers.

The boxing classic will give a cross community team from Northern Ireland an opportunity to box together as a team to compete against top class talent from the many neighbourhood projects funded clubs from USA.

Chris, an electrical engineer in Wrightbus in Ballymena, who kindly granted him time off to attend the weigh-ins, was one of the first to be selected and is honoured to represent Northern Ireland in this context.

Chris will be joined by a top class team of boxers from across Northern Ireland including commonwealth games bronze medallist Sean Duffy.

The team will box this Friday night at the historic site and will then box in a return leg when the USA team host the Northern Irish team.

Chris, who recently boxed in the final of the intermediates, narrowly lost out and is eager to get back to winning ways.

Chris who has been boxing for his Braid club since he was 16 has been training hard and has completed many sparing trips in Belfast where he has put the finishing touches to his preparations.

Chris will be boxing at the catch weight of 70kgs and will face stiff opposition from his unbeaten American opponent.
