Carl Frampton will rule super-bantamweight division says Dave Boy McAuley

Former IBF World champion Dave ‘Boy’ McAuley is confident that Carl Frampton will rule the Super-bantamweight division in the coming years.

Belfast boy Frampton defends his IBF World title against Alejandro Gonzalez Jr in El Paso in America on Saturday night and McAuley is sure Frampton will retain his crown against the Mexican before going on to rule his division.

“Carl is the best in the division. If I was Guillermo Rigondeaux, Leo Santa Cruz or Scott Quigg I would be running for cover.

“I believe Carl beats them all and he can go on to defend this title 10 times or more.

“Frampton would chin Rigondeaux, Santa Cruz and Quigg. He is above the rest of them in that weight division,” he added.

And McAuley - who defended his IBF title five times - believes Frampton will not be ambushed in El Paso by his Mexican rival.

“He will blow Gonzalez Jr away and it is the perfect fight for him as he is making his debut in America.

“Carl will have to be careful but this guy should be very little threat to him.

“He will be looking to impress the American viewers and make a huge impression in the USA.

“It is a big step for him fighting away from home in the States for the first time but he will handle it and get the job done,” he added.

And McAuley says he will be also keeping an eye on the Quigg versus kiko Martinez fight - which also takes place on Saturday night.

“I have watched Quigg many times and I have not been impressed. He covers up well and is strong - but I think Carl would have far too much for him. But that is a fight that has to be made.

“I would not fight Quigg for the WBA belt he has - Rigondeaux is the real WBA World champion - but I would fight him if the money was right.

“I also think that Quigg and Kiko are very similar in style. They are both flat footed and march forward. That fight could just depend on who lands the first big punch.

“Quigg should win late on or on points - but Kiko has a punchers chance and he is dangerous.

“It should be a good fight - but Quigg has to win or the Frampton fight will be dead in the water,” added McAuley.
