The Ballymena boxer kept his Rio 2016 qualification chances very much alive after recording his fourth win in four contests against Alberto Ignacio Palmetta in Argentina as Donnelly’s Polish Hussars team lost 3-2 to Argentina Condors.

“I won on a split decision this time, although I thought I won the fight handy,” said Donnelly.

“I’m over the moon because it’s not easy to come here and win.

“That’s four wins from four and I’m sitting on a healthy 19 points in the rankings.

“I have two fights left and I’ve said all along, I’m not here just to take part.”

The Commonwealth Games bronze medallist will be hoping to continue his superb form to date as he chases one of the two top ranking places which will automatically secure Olympic qualification.

He still sits third after being awarded a defeat after a visa mix-up which meant he was unable to box in Azerbaijan last month.
