Jason McKay, who has five All-Ireland titles, was pipped at the post by a Russian boxer at the recent European Championships in Bulgaria and had to settle for a Silver Medal.

Both Kurt and Jason are putting Canal Boxing Academy, Lisburn on the map, considering the club has only been going for three years. They have already produced lots of champions on the domestic level and beyond.

Another young boxer on the rise is Dean Brown Spence, 52kg, who has a great future ahead of him. Also Cole Magennis, Robbie Gilmore and Dean Brown Spence were finalists in the recent 9 Counties Ulster Championships. Coach Noel Reynolds is ecstatic with the success of the club to date. “One key to our success is getting the best spars all around the country,” said Noel. “We have a great relationship with many clubs and have never let anyone down, be it spars or Club Shows.

“Club President, Barry McGuigan, has been taken aback with the Champions we are turning out to date. Canal Boxing Academy have a great team of coaches who gel well together and work hard training and teaching our young boxers the art of boxing.

“We hope it continues.”
