Joel defeats Irish champion

JOEL Scullion is hoping to be the latest talent to roll off the All Saints Boxing Club production line.

The 16-year-old Ballymena boxer served further notice of his potential as he announced his arrival in the Irish Youth Championships in style at the weekend.

Under the careful guidance of former Ulster senior champions Dermot and Thomas Hamill, Joel defeated current Irish 50kg champion Oran McDermott (Donegal) 3-2 to reach this weekend’s semi-finals.

Scullion will have an opportunity to showcase his talents locally in a few weeks’ time when All Saints holds its annual fight night in the Des Allen Suite at Ballymena Showgrounds on Saturday, May 8.

Other boxers on that bill include All Saints’ Ulster champion Steven Donnelly and another up-and-coming boxer Curtis Greer.
