Local success at boxing contest

There was success for boxers from Canal Boxing Academy at the recent Ulster Novice Championships.

Reece Russell, Mia Neill and Thomas Maxwell all weighed into the recent championships, which were held in Banbridge Boxing Club.

Mia Neill won the title at 48kg Girl 1.

Reece Russell reached the semi-final and was unlucky not to go through as he has already beaten his opponent but there was a mistake with the draw.

Thomas Maxwell, who recently won Best Newcomer at Canal Boxing Academy, won the 42kg class by a stand-out 3-0 victory over a very game opponent from Abbey Boxing Club in Bangor.

Canal Boxing Academy is expecting big things this season with a lot of young talent coming through.

The club held a ballot on Monday October 13 and the winners were: 1st Diane Collins; 2nd Lyla and 3rd M. Montgomery.
