SLIDESHOW: All Saints ABC fight night

A full house at the local witnessed an enthrilling boxing tournament of the highest standard, but it was not until the sixth fight that the home team recorded their first victory.

Martin Stokes opened the show and can feel slightly unfortunate to be on the wrong end of a split decision, but his clever southpaw counterpunching style certainly caught the eye and it was felt that if he has upped the ante a bit more in the latter stages he surely would have recorded a win.

The game Frank Duffin was always up against it giving away height and reach, it was too much of an ask.

Alex Porter from the Loup club held on to snatch victory from the battling Sam McCullough. The long range shots of Porter pilled up the points but the battling McCullough with the crowd behind him battled to the very end.

Two more close calls from Ronan Tierney and Micheal Stokes, both going down on points decisions before debutant Shane Hulsman recorded All Saints first win, a toe to toe battle all the way, edging out Dungannon’s Jan Molda.

A super-fit Conner McGhee opened the second half with a somewhat scrappy win over Corai Madden from the famous Belfast Star club, the extra fitness of McGhee surely a telling factor.

Emeka Onwuka kept the home side winning, pipping St Johns Boscos Paddy Smith in an evenally matched contest.

But Saints’ star of the show was surely Portglenone lad Christie Convery, with his tight compact pressure boxing, forcing the fight all the way, with shots to the body and head, all credit to John Paul Hale from the Star club for making such a good fight of it. A return fight eagerly awaits.

Glen Timperley won a toe-to-toe toss-up before home favourite Ricky Moore edged out Swatragh’s Ryan McPeak in an enthrilling show closer.

After the contests were over, it was left to M.C. the ever youthful looking Tony McAvoy to bring the curtain down on an excellent night of boxing
