Success for Townland boxer at the All Ireland championships
There was success for local lad John McConnell from Townland Boxing Club in Glenavy, when he was victorious at the All Ireland Championships in Dublin at the weekend.
Sinn Fein representative for the Glenavy area Marykate Quinn congratulated John, saying: “This is a fantastic achievement for John, Townland boxing club and Glenavy as a whole. The commitment that John and other boxers make to the sport should be acknowledged and celebrated.
“Townland Boxing Club opens its doors to many young people from Glenavy, Crumlin and surrounding areas. The coaches and volunteers are dedicated to providing sports facilities to the area. I am sure they are delighted to bring home an All-Ireland medal back to Co. Antrim.
“Everyone involved in the club are a credit to the community and I wish them all the best in their future endeavours.”
