He wasn’t the only local lad in a final as Ryan Roy pushed his man all the way, only to be narrowly beaten by the lad who won the title for the third successive year.

Up first was Thomas, who faced a boy from Antrim. His opponent was a lot taller but the Lisburn lad didn’t let that hold him back.

As the bell went for the first round, Thomas was quickly out to the centre of the ring as his opponent moved back. Thomas was quickly on him with a nice double jab right hand to the body combo which clearly hurt his man as he tried to move away.

Thomas superbly cut him off and again hit him with a nice one two to the head and a left right to the body which had his man reeling on to the ropes.

Thomas moved in with a jab to the head and a lovely right to the body to which his man had no reply and the referee jumped in and stopped the fight to make Thomas the County Antrim Open Champion for the second year running. It was a truely fantastic performance from Thomas.

Next up was Ryan Roy who faced a hard opponent who had won this competition the past two years with over 15 fights to his name.

As the bell went, the two boys moved in and both threw a lovely jab at each other, both landing. As the fight went on, Ryan was moving really well, making his man miss and countering with some nice shots of his own.

As the round was coming to an end Ryan’s man finished strongly with some nice one twos, pushing Ryan back. The second and third round were more the same as Ryan moved well and got some nice shots in but experience told as his opponent just had the upper hand.

Nonetheless, it was a great effort from Ryan as this was only his sixth fight.

Lisburn Boxing Club would like to congratulate both Thomas and Ryan and wish them well for the future.
