Bradley to retire

DERRY forward Paddy Bradley has announced he will retire at the conclusion of the county's campaign in this years All-Ireland Championship series.

The former All-Star, now aged 29, made his decision in the aftermath of Derry's exit from the Ulster Championship at the hands of Armagh. The defeat came in the tournaments preliminary round at Celtic Park, where Derry had not suffered a Championship defeat since 1994.

Also, the manner of the defeat, in which many of the Derry players produced lack lustre performances has best has cast a long shadow over Derry senior football this season. Despite a pulsating start to the year which saw Derry easily dismiss Tyrone in the National League, performances thereafter have been at times dismal.

"I honestly feel I have given good service to the county over 11 years and I have given my all every time I have played for the county. But I want to go out with a bang-I believe we are a match for anyone," said Bradley.

Bradley has failed to win the Ulster SFC title with Derry since he made his championship debut against Cavan in 2000
