Braidmen face crunch promotion encounter

Andy Graham insists that Ballymena Rugby Club must focus on their own business ahead of a potentially dramatic final day in the Ulster Bank All-Ireland League.

The Braidmen go into the final round of AIL fixtures knowing that they must beat Barnhall at Eaton Park and then hope that other results go their way if they are to secure promotion to Division 1B.

“There are all sorts of permutations,” Graham told Times Sport.

“It could go down to who maybe picks up a bonus point or Saturday or it could even be decided by points difference, so we have to firstly try to win and then secondly, do so by as large a margin as possible.

All we can do is focus on winning our own game - we can’t affect whatever happens elsewhere.

“It’s our own fault we’re in this position - if we had won in Cork a week ago we would already be up.

“Barnhall were up near the top of the table a while back so our game is not any easier than trying to predict who will win between UCC and City of Derry.

“We will maybe look back on games that we lost with the last play of the game and we’ll have to learn from that.

“If we don’t go up we will be very disappointed because we’ve put a lot of hard work in over the course of the season but if it’s not to be we’ll pick ourselves up and go again next season,” added Graham, who expects to have former Irish international prop Bryan Young available, along with Ricky Andrew.
