BRBL record shock victory

Coppergate International Ballymena and Coleraine District Snooker League

THE League has taken a back seat for the past two weeks as the Baker Family Doubles Competition got underway which has now reached the quarter final stages.

The highlight of last week’s games was Mark Hutimson who knocked in breaks of 73 and 72 to go into the next round and a possible semi-final. The quarter final that catches the eye is the one between Dunloy pair Martin Crawley and Randal McDonnell who have home advantage against William Eakin and Willie Boreland - a hard one to call but the Triangle pair won’t make it easy.

The postponed match between Ballymoney RBL A and Garvagh Club was played last Wednesday night with the visitors looking for a win to go top of the table.

But a shock was in store - a big shock.

The first two frames were shared when Aidy McGonigle took the second to win a black ball fight against Peter Roulston.

Barney Gilmore then won his two frames accounting for Marcus Dickson, putting the RBL A well on their way to an upset.

It was all down to their captain Sammy Walker taking the final two frames against Gregory Cooke and a good five frames to one winner for the RBL A.

This will no doubt put a big dent on the Garvagh Club’s chances of winning the league and is a big boost for a struggling team.

Meanwhile the line-up is now known for the final of the Baker Family Doubles. Ballymoney RBL’s Aidy McGonigle and Barney Gilmore beat Triangle duo Liam Caulfield and Alan Moffett.

They will play Garvagh pair Marcus Dickson and Gregory Cooke.
