Brian the Big winner of Moyola Cup

A total of £355 was raised by Moyola Angling Club when last Saturday they held their annual charity competition.

This amount will be donated equally to Cancer Research NI and Downs Syndrome Association. A big thanks goes to The Chippy of Castledawson for providing food for the barbecue also Costcutters, Newbridge, and Vivo, Castledawson, for supplying soft drinks.

Gratiutde to Jonathan Hurl, Stanley Aspinall, Joey, Peter O’Neill, Robert Hueston, Tommy McGrath and Barry Diamond for donating prizes for the raffle. Indeed, thanks to everyone who turned up and supported this annual charity event .

As regards the competition itself,winner of the Moyola Charity Cup was Brian Bigmore with a good bag of trout,plus a wee dollaghan of 1lb 3oz.Second went to Paul Fulton and in third Barry Diamond.

The Francis McAuley Memorial Cup for juniors was won by Eimear McClenaghan. This was her first success on the Moyola River. As regards the league table, with only three competitions to go, Ruth Arrell still leads the way with 7 1points. Other leading placings are – Tommy McGrath (69) Philip Maguire (62); Brian Bigmore (58); Barry Diamond (54). As for the juniors, Joseph Spiers is out front with a total of 40. However, Eimear McClenaghan has closed the gap and now has 34.

Meanwhile,another great weekend away in Fermanagh was enjoyed by club members.The first competition, held on Saturday, was at Keenaghan Lake outside Kesh. Winner of the Moyola Still Water Cup for the heaviest fish was Tommy McGrath, landing a trout of 1lb 15oz. In joint second were Robert Paul and Philip Maguire with trouts of 1lb 13oz.

Third went to Seamus Donnelly, his fish weighing in at 1lb 10oz.

On Sunday, the venue was Navar Forest Park, Derrygonnelly, with the heaviest bag of trout, and Spectrum Cup, going to Robert Paul with a grand total of 12lb 11oz. Congratulations goes to Robert as this was his very first win with the Moyola club.

Second here was Brian Bigmore, a total of 8lb 9oz, and third Seamus Donnelly, 6lb 15oz.

The additional Pairs Competition brought success for Robert Paul and Tommy McGrath. A big thanks goes to Bernie and Philip for the meal on Saturday also the barbecue on Sunday. Gratitude expressed to Ruth and Moira for all their help.

Members should note that there are three dates for September. The Harold Hueston Cup will be fished for on Saturday 14th,the Bradleys Lake open day 21st,and the Heron Bros.Ltd Cup to take place 28th.
