Bright start for new season

The new bowling season at Lurgan season started well on a beautiful sunny spring afternoon on an excellent green at their Lurgan Park venue last Saturday with over fifty members in attendance.

Following the club flag unfurling by Sam Neill, Club President and the bowling of the first bowl by his wife, Mrs Lettie Neill who was presented with a bouquet of flowers by Lady President, Miss Edith Hobson.

The traditional rinks tournament got underway with five rinks in use with the Gents’ Prize being won by Gerry Stewart and the Ladies’ by Iris Anderson. Millen Jones won the newcomers prize.

The club members retired to the pavilion where Sam Neill, President, his wife Lettie and family had laid on a sumptuous afternoon tea which was enjoyed by all.

The proceeding concluded with Stephen Poots, Vice-President thanking the Club President and his wife for the excellent meal and also paying tribute to Derek Wrigley, greenkeeper, whose diligent pre-season maintenance had produced a top-notch playing surface which was often commented upon during the tournament.
