Broad range of workshops on show in Craigavon, Armagh and Banbridge across the Coachworks 2016 programme

The Coachworks 2016 programme will provide a series of innovative workshops offering expert advice across the Craigavon, Armagh and Banbridge regions.

The opening event has been planned for Monday, January 18 in Ardmore Recreation Centre.

Terence McWilliams, the Ulster games development manager for GAA, will host ‘Periodisation - Planning The Year Ahead’ from 6.30-9.30 as a guide to training methods to prevent injury or burnout via FITT (Frequency, Intensity, Time and Type).

Dr Sharon Madigan, the head of nutrition for the Irish Institute For Sport, has a session scheduled for January 25 in Ardmore from 6.30-9.30 covering ‘Good Food To Achieve Health And Performance’.

The event will serve up specialist nutritional advice.

Danny Turley’s ‘Introduction To Coaching With Performance Analysis’ in Brownlow Community Hub has been booked for January 20 from 7-9 o’clock to build on the fundamentals of shaping key indicators and translate information into coaching.

Craigavon Leisure Centre’s ‘ACL Injury Prevention Warm-Up’ on January 27 will run from 7-9 o’clock under the guidance of the Irish Football Association’s Ken Duncan.

The workshop will discuss the FIFA-backed full warm-up routine for pre-match and post-game sessions to reduce risk of injury, as well as stretching techniques and player observation points.

The ‘Mind Games: Mental Skills For Competition’ workshop staged by Sport NI’s Michael Cooke will run on January 21 from 7-9 o’clock.

It will help coaching staff consider the mental skills involved in athlete development.

Banbridge Leisure Centre will stage Netball Northern Ireland’s ‘Analysing And Transforming Tactical Play In Netball’ on January 26 from 7.45-9.45.

The session should help coaching staff learn how to identify patterns of play with match situations and adopt techniques in training which you can then transfer.

“We have lined up a fantastic programme of activity for this year’s Coachworks,” said Craigavon Borough Council’s sports development officer, Wanda Rea. “We’ve aimed to ensure that we have something which is relevant and innovative for coaches at all levels.”

The course will cost £5 per session and early booking is advised.
