Broadbridge Girls in cross country

GIRLS from Broadbridge Primary School ran brilliantly to finish ahead of 11 other Primary Schools at Necarne, Irvinestown in the 2010 Northern Ireland Cross Country Finals. They finished sixth from a field of sixteen.

The event was organised by the Western Education and Library Board (WELB) in partnership with the BELB, SEELB, the Southern Sports Partnership and Sport South East. Each area organised heats over the past number of months and 300 pupils from primary schools all over NI qualified to participate in the Final.

In the girl's team event St Patrick's PS, Pennyburn were placed fourth, Tempo PS were fifth with Broadbridge PS finishing in sixth place. 16 teams competed in the girl's team event so it was a great achievement to have three teams from the WELB in the top six.

Ryan Cunningham, WELB Sports Development Officer and event organiser, praised the commitment and effort of all the pupils who took part in the WELB Cross Country events this year.

He said: "Each pupil should be very proud of what they have achieved; to qualify for the Northern Ireland Final is an achievement in itself. The standard of running is improving every year as schools are training well in advance for the cross country challenge."

He added: "I would like to pay tribute to all the boys and girls who represented WELB at the Northern Ireland Final. The quality of running on the day highlighted the tremendous talent in our schools - a talent which must be carefully nurtured and developed."
