The Coleraine siblings along with fellow local star Alan Campbell were named in the GB team last Thursday.

Campbell, the Olympic bronze medallist from London last year, is the selected men’s open weight single sculler having picked up a silver medal at the world cup event at Eton Dorney in June.

The Chambers brothers will race the lightweight men’s double scull once more having made the podium of each of this season’s world cup meetings – the highlight being the gold picked up in Sydney at the start of the year.

“We haven’t won a regatta final as a partnership yet but we have won heats and semi-finals,” said Richard.

“We take confidence from our training, which we know is as good, if not better, than the rest of the crews.

“Mark Hunter and Zac Purchase had a successful partnership last year but we haven’t looked at how they rode the boat or what they achieved - we are trying to make our own way.

“We’ve just come out of a tough training camp so we are as fit and strong as we have ever been and it’s all about improving technically so that we perform to our best when under pressure at major championships.

“Italy will probably pose the main threat, but there are half a dozen other crews in with a good chance, including Norway, Switzerland, Poland, the Netherlands and Denmark.”
