Brown inspires Prior to victory

PRIORIANS Firsts travelled to the coastal town of Killkeel for their penultimate game of the season and came away with a impressive 3-1 victory, on Saturday.

After their home fixture was being postponed last week Priorians were eager to come away with a win.

The Killkeel players came out strong with their known tactic of the counter attack and they scored early in the opening five minutes of the game.

Priorians aware of this strength in the home side responded with added pressure on their defence and after being awarded many penalty corners Emma Sproule worked her way round the keeper to equalise.

After play from the midfield Prior found themselves infiltrating Killkeel’s circle once again with Claire Lightowlers finishing it off with a goal from the penalty spot.

Killkeel didn’t retreat and made quick counter attacks by hitting the ball through to high players uncovered by Prior but the defence of Kristel Brown, Sharon Karyannis and Alex Graham along with goal keeper Megan McClintock coped well to keep the visitors ahead.

Prior continued with a high work rate and built up good phases of play and Netty Wilson made a good run from the left to put the ball in the corner of the goal. This took the score to 3-1 at half-time.

At the start of the second half Prior had lost some organisation and missed some chances on goal.

However they remained strong and came away with the much sought after victory. Kristel Brown won the player of the match award.

The final game is scheduled for this weekend again it’s Killkeel and they will be looking for a reversal of the score line, so it should be a great match.
