BSB for North West 200

INTERNATIONAL North West 200 Race Director Mervyn Whyte has confirmed that top BSB rider Simon Andrews will join his MSS Colchester Kawasaki team mates Ryan Farquhar and Stephen Thompson and compete in the Superbike categories at this year's Relentless International North West 200 in association with Black Horse on Saturday May 15th.

Rising star Andrews, who hails from the Cotswolds town of Evesham, took the MSS Colchester Kawasaki team to their best British Superbike Championship finish of sixth, despite being taken out of the lead at Mallory Park and missing five races subsequently with injury.

Following a strong showing at the Macau Grand Prix Andrews was eager to make his North West 200 debut and is looking forward to the 8.96 mile challenge:

“The NW200 really excites me! I’ve watched it for many years and with guys such as Easton, Farquhar, McGuinness and Plater whom I really respect and get along with – it will be mega competitive. I also feel that I can now ride in this event with the right kind of approach which may not have been the case a few years ago.”

Andrews continued, “Recognised as Northern Ireland’s largest sporting event, the NW200 will be a challenge to rider, machine and tyres. I believe the circuit really tests handling and performance with differing surfaces, adverse cambers and corners from tight, hairpin bends to super-fast open corners and straights.”

Race Director Mervyn Whyte MBE commented: “We’re delighted to have secured newcomer Simon Andrews for this year’s race and we’re looking forward to showing him round the course on 30th March when Simon will be one of several top riders making a guest appearance at our next race media conference at the Ramada, Portrush. During the year we work hard raising the profile of the North West at top race events including BSB meetings and Macau Grand Prix and it’s fantastic to attract riders of Simon Andrews’ calibre. Simon is set to add a thrilling and competitive edge to this year’s Superbike races.”
