Buoyant Glebe topple Ards at JDLC

FEW had given Glebe Rangers much of a chance against Ards at the Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre on Saturday.

The betting man would have been forgiven for placing a few quid on the Co. Down lads who, after all, were 17 points ahead of their rivals before the game.

But there's a new spirit about the Glebe side these days since the arrival of Gary Scott and other sides better sit up and take notice that the local lads are no longer pushovers!

Privately, Glebe management would have been happy had they scraped home by a single goal, but to win by three was the icing on the cake and made for a very happy dressing room.

Taylor, McCart and Elder were the Glebe marksmen and Ards will ruin some squandered chances but, in truth, they were never a match for the resilience and determination of the Glebe, qualities instilled by the hard working management team of Scott, Peter Tweed, Garety Moody and Geoff Greer.

Manager, Scott, was full of praise for his battling side who, he says, have developed a "ferocious appetite" in the past few weeks.

"No one outside the dressing room expected us to win, but there's a faith and a belief that we can maintain this run," Gary told the Times.

He added: "The crowd were absolutely excellent and that's what grass roots football is all about. The fact that we have now gone five games unbeaten since Glebe joined the Irish League sets some some of benchmark."

Modestly, Gary is not taking all the credit and insists that it's about teamwork and everyone pulling together.

There is no doubt that the mood at the Glebe is buoyant and Gary is hoping that the recent success will continue and that the club can climb out of the drop zone in the coming weeks.
