BUSC win Glass CUp after win over Old Bleach

BUSC finished their season with a flourish as they defeated Old Bleach to win the Glass Cup.

Having dispensed with the format of a Churches League section and a District League one, it was two District League teams who reached the decider of the revamped competition, which was played at St Patrick’s Church Hall.

In the first series of games David Elliott’s Social rink were first on the scoreboard with a count of three shots.

The Old Bleach foursome skipped by Alan Scott struck back with a single shot and continued their momentum to finish 8–5 winners.

On the adjacent mat Old Bleach continued their winning mode as William Fullerton guided his rink to another 8–5 defeat of Bryan Magrath’s quartet.

On mat three the game changed in Social’s favour as Steven shields skipped his rink to a commanding 6–14 defeat of Nigel McNally’s foursome.

Mat four saw Jonny Millar’s rink left Social in charge at the break with a 6–9 win over Mervyn McDonald’s charges.

After the break and a change of mats Social continued their quest for the silverware as Jonny Millar’s rink got the better of William Fullerton by 4–7.

On mat two David Elliott’s foursome virtually ensured that Social would take the cup as he defeated Nigel McNally’s foursome by 2–13.

On the adjacent mat Bryan Magrath’s rink were again on the wrong end of the 8-5 score-line in a close game with Mervyn McDonald.

In the final game Social’s Steven Shields got the better of Alan Scott’s charges by 2–11 to ensure a comfortable win for the town side.

At the end of the proceedings Mr Gerry McCann, representing Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice, was presented with a donation of £1200.

Thanks were expressed to St Patrick’s for the use of the hall and equipment.
