Busy week for B team

Rink 1 was made up of Gordy Magennis, Davy Dennison, Paul Adamson and Fergie Larkin. After seven ends they were 2-9 up and after 14 ends they had stretched their advantage to 8-17. At 21 ends it finished 11-30 to the locals. Aidan Magennis, Francie Doyle, Mathew Adamson and Robbie Gough made up rink 2 and after seven ends they led 1-8 and by 14 it was 5-17. By the end  it was 12-21 in Dunbarton’s favour. In Rink 3 were Johnny Gray, Kenny Kelly, Noel Wilson and James Kelly. By seven ends the locals were 6-5 down but by 14 ends they had recovered to lead 12-15. However it wasn’t to be for them and they ended up losing 18-17. Trevor Gray, Ryan McElroy, Marty McInerney and Clifford Dennison were in rink 4 and they led 3-6 after seven ends. That was extended to 7-13 after 14 ends and at the end they won 8-26. This was a great result by the Gilford men with all rinks playing to a high standard. Awaiting them is an away tie to ICICYMA of Cork on July 28.

Yet again these two teams met up for the second time five days later, this time for the semi-final of the PGL Junior Cup.

There are no score cards at hand but both teams found the surface at Belmont very tricky and had to fight for their weight and length.

Over 16 ends Dunbarton held a slight lead but on the 17th end a roar went up from the Falls supporters as they got their noses in front for the first time.

The 18th end saw a remarkable turnaround; James Kelly played a superb bowl to punch his opponents nearest bowl out to lift a six. Fergie Larkin’s rink lifted a five, Clifford Dennison’s rink lifted four and this killed off Falls’ brave effort and dampened their support.

The final score after 21 ends saw Dunbarton win 80-59. Awaiting them in the final is Ballymena on August 17.

- Dunbarton Juniors visited Ballymena knowing they had to defeat the league leaders. This game was always going be tight but after 10 ends the league leaders were up by 21 shots.

But this Dunbarton team are battlers and after 15 ends they had reduced the lead to six overall.

Over the remaining ends they just couldn’t reel them in and were down 14 shots, 92-78, coming home with 2.5 points.
