Busy week for Dromore bowlers

DROMORE seniors played Newtownabbey at home last Wednesday night and took six points from the game.

Rink 1: H Hylands, W Clinghan, D Shanks, Alan Johnston.

Rink 2: A Matthews, G Ervine, D McCandless, SG Malcomson.

Rink 3: G Dawson, A Johnston, R Greer, G Clinghan.

Rink 4: D Graham, J Elliott, D K Aiken, J McKenny.

In a close first five ends the seniors were five shots in arrears with Johnston the only rink ahead by one. SG and McKenny were both one shot down with Clinghan all square.

At the halfway stage the seniors had got their act together to lead by 15. Johnston was leading by 10, SG was in arrears of four, Clinghan was six in the black and McKenny was three to the good.

The seniors had the game in the bag when the 15th end score was taken as they were now 32 ahead. Johnston was now leading by 13, SG was in trouble at 16 down, Clinghan was now 16 ahead with McKenny scoring heavily to be 19 ahead.

The last six ends were plain sailing for the locals, winning by 28. Johnston was pulled back to finish six ahead, SG was not a good evening and was defeated by 20, Clinghan had no trouble in his 19 shot victory and McKenny always in control to be 23 in the lead at the finish.

- The seniors kept their good form for their visit to Carrick, taking another six points on Saturday last winning by 21 shots.

Rink 1: G Dawson, Andrew Johnston, F Cranney, G Clinghan.

Rink 2: B Paylor, H Hylands, W Clinghan, A Johnston.

Rink 3: A Matthews ,G Ervine, D Burns, SG Malcomson.

Rink 4: D Graham, J Elliott, K Aiken, D Shanks.

The seniors took the honours in the first five ends with three rinks ahead. Clinghan was one up, Johnston was four ahead, Shanks was ahead by one and SG was down by three.

In the next quarter Carrick had turned the game around for them to lead by three. Clinghan and Shanks both were two up, Johnston was all square while SG was in arrears of seven.

The third quarter was the match winner for the seniors when the scoreboard showed them ahead by 24. Clinghan was now leading by 10, Johnston was now ahead by seven, SG was a single in the red while Shanks was eight to the good.

In the final six ends the visitors held on to take six points. Clinghan had a 12 shot winning margin, Johnston did not last the pace to go down by two, SG squeezed home by one and Shanks had a cosy win of 10.

This Saturday the seniors have a free day while the juniors will take on Cloughey in a league game at 2pm.

- It was another disappointing result for Dromore juniors when they played a league game at home against Antrim, being defeated by three shots.

Rink 1: T Ogle, R Elliott, H Maxwell, T Wilson.

Rink 2: S Dugan, R Malcomson, G McDowell, T Sudlow.

Rink 3: J McCullough, N Lindsay, T Gribben, S Malcomson.

Rink 4: J Topping, R Bolton, I Houston, A Sudlow.

The juniors could not have started any better, getting themselves ahead by 21 shots. Wilson was ahead by 10, T Sudlow was a single up, A Sudlow was three ahead while S Malcomson had an advantage of seven.

It was shock for the locals at the halfway stage as the visitors had reduced the margin to just two. Wilson now was down by three, T Sudlow was down by a single, but both Malcomson and A Sudlow both ahead by three.

When the three quarters stage was reached the visitors had now extended their lead to 10. Wilson was now in arrears of 18, T Sudlow was leading by two, Malcomson was a single ahead while A Sudlow was five to the good.

In the final six ends the visitors held on to record a three shot victory. It was a bad afternoon for Wilson who finished down by 17, T Sudlow recorded a three shot victory, Malcomson ended up four to the good and A Sudlow got home by seven.
