Busy week for Dromore High girls

THE past couple of weeks has seen plenty of hockey at Dromore High School including two Saturday morning fixtures.

The string of matches started last week with three teams travelling on Saturday to Sullivan Upper in Holywood.

Playing on gravel is something the Dromore girls are not used but despite this they picked up some decent results against the grammar school.

The U16's lost 1-0. Player of the match was Lauren Thompson and Amy Robinson

The U14's won 3-0. Goals were scored by Victoria Robinette, Emily Beatty and Amy Poots. Player of the match shared between Coral Dickson and Emily Beatty.

The U13's lost 1-0. Player of the match was Sophie Fletcher.

During the past week the Dromore hockey teams were in action after school everyday. On Monday the U13 A's and B's travelled to Royal School Armagh. Royal Armagh was one of the toughest fixtures the girls have faced and unfortunately the girls came away with two defeats.

On Tuesday the U15's played Armagh Royal at home but unfortunately Armagh left with a 2-1 victory.

The Dromore girls played a very strong game of hockey but unfortunately Armagh had two chances in the circle which they maximised on, sending the ball into the top corner of the net at an alarming rate! Dromore's goal was scored by Amy Mackin. Player of the match was Victoria Morrison and Jill Brown.

On Wednesday the U16 girls travelled to Friends school, Lisburn. The girls had a very pleasing game beating Friends by 2-0. Goalscorer's were Hannah Morrow and Beth Gowdy. Player of the match was Lauren Thompson.

Meanwhile on Thursday the U14's also travelled to Friends and came back with a very promising score, 6-1. The Dromore girls played extremely well, creating and finishing some great attack play. Goalscorers were Jill Brown who got four, Emily Beatty and Jemma Smyth. Player of the match was Emily Beatty and Jill Brown. And on Saturday week both the U13 and the U14's travelled to Belfast to play Wellington College.

The U13's had a great game, beating Wellington 2-0. There was excellent play in midfield from Becky Thompson who constantly supplied the forwards, Rachel McKee and Chloe Greenaway, with great opportunities upon which the girls maximised keeping the pressure on the Wellington defence. Goalscorers were Rachel McKee and Alix McCreery. Player of the match was Becky Thompson.

The U14's had a very strong game against Wellington. The girls played well in the second half but the Wellington defence denied the girls any chances to leave the final score 0-0. Player of the match was Jill Brown.
