Busy week for Millpark Seconds

MILLPARK Seconds had a busy week last week. First of all it was Victoria Seconds who stood in their way after suffering their first defeat of the season.

Victory was a must for the locals. Father and son Stephen and Stuart McCart opened the batting and it was fireworks from the start with the run rate at eight runs per over for a while.

But when Stephen was bowled for 20 Stuart followed soon after to be replaced by his brother Ryan who again scored quickly then followed a collapse leaving the visitors at 96 for six in only the twentieth over.

Johnny Breen was then joined by Jason Maxwell, both players batting sensibly but putting the bad ball to the boundary before both men were out in the thirty-first over - Johnny for 36 and Jason for 27.

Millpark only managed to bat another seven overs with John McDowell scoring 15 useful runs at the end bringing the total up to 186 all out.

On the Wednesday night it was Stuart McCart and David Maxwell and it was to be Stuart who gave the locals the ideal start bowling the two Victoria openers.

After Stuart and David finished their spells Victoria got on top due to some woeful bowling and slack fielding but with the Introduction of Ian and Stephen McCart into the attack this was all to change with wickets falling at regular intervals and Stephen finishing with impressive figures of four for 12 and Ian with three for 34

Although being unable to bowl, Victoria stemmed the flow of runs and allowed the visitors to pick up their second league win out of two.

On Saturday Millpark seconds were again on their travels - this time to Chambers Park to take on Portadown with the chance to go top of the league.

With the early rain the team that won the toss were immediately going to be on top and it was Millpark captain Ian McCart who won to give the locals the ideal start.

The Millpark openers kept the scoring to a minimum but were unable to take a wicket enter David Maxwell who took an over or two to hit his stride but he was to take full advantage of the conditions.

On one occasion being on a hat trick he produced tidy figures of two for 21 off his eight overs, Andrew Woods and Jason Maxwell also returned two wickets with their off spin and skipper McCart also weighed in with two, the other being a run out.

This was an impressive fielding display by the locals with Portadown being 51 without loss ending up 104 all out.

Millpark took to the Portadown total with ease reaching the total for the loss of only one wicket, Stuart McCart again impressing with the bat and being the only man out for 47.

David Maxwell fittingly scoring the winning runs with just under 12 overs to spare to take Millpark temporarily at least top of the league.
