Busy weekend at Portstewart

IT WAS a busy weekend at Portstewart Golf Club beginning with the Seaparks Cups for Mixed Foursomes on Friday at the Old Course.

The winners were Brian and Louie Fillis with a nett score of 54.5 and the runners-up were Derek McIntyre and Helen McLaughlin.

On Saturday, the Queen Elizabeth Cup (Medal) was played for and 13 handicapper Stephen Haslam took the honours with a nett score of 67.

In second place was Reynolds McCubbin, playing off 8, with a nett score of 67. In the low section, Annsley Stewart (3) on a nett score of 68 was the winner and of the high handicappers Seamus Harkin, playing off 13, netted 69 - making that his third prize in four weeks.

Winner of the Best Gross was Mark Hemphill with 75.

On Sunday, the Open Stableford saw all the winners coming from Portstewart.

Taking the first position was Jack Farrell (16) with 40 points, winning on the back three holes.

In second place was Norman Grills (6) on 40 pts with Philip Kearney (21) carding 40 pts to take third spot.

Conal Loughrey (19) on 38 pts was fourth with fifth place going to John Joe O'Kane (17) 38 pts.

Roy Martin (19) on 38 pts was sixth with best gross going to six handicapper Chris Barber on 76 who beat his father David on the back nine.
