Busy weekend for junior sides

BANBRIDGE Rangers were represented at four different age groups over last weekend at a tournament hosted by Annalong Rovers.

The Under 8s continued to show what a good side they are by winning their age group whilst the Under 14s came runners up after losing their final.

The Under 11s missed out on making the final in their age group and the Under 10s came close to clinching a semi final place but came up short to goal difference by one.

The tournament was well organised and on the Friday night Banbridge Rangers enjoyed most of their success with the Under 8 team blowing the competition away with some free flowing football.

After topping their group with four wins out of four they progressed to a semi final against Rathfriland and after a scoreless draw the two teams had to be separated by a penalty shootout. Keeper Aaron Knox saved the first penalty to give the Gers the advantage with three good strikes Issac Heslip, Llywd Jones and Matthew Hampton seeing them through.

The Rangers team then met hosts Annalong Rovers in the final where goals from Joshua Rice and Matthew Hampton sealed a 2-1 and secured the first title of many for this group of talented young footballers who narrowly missed out on silverware the previous week in Loughgall.

The Under 14s also played on Friday night in their section and secured a place in the final with some good football losing only one group game in the process. In the final they came up against a good Rathfriland side who won 3-0 but the Rangers players showed great character with Bradley Harper shining throughout.

On the Saturday the Under 10s and 11s both competed well but came up short in their 7 a side competitions.
