Busy weekend for young hurlers and camogs

The Eoghan Rua club will also host two clubs, the hurlers fom Ferbane/Belmont, Co Offaly and the camogs from St Domnics, Co Roscommon over this coming weekend.

The Bus Éireann Féile na nGael tournament for hurling and camogie will be hosted on a provincial basis by Ulster, beginning on Friday, June 20 and concluding on Sunday June 22 while the football version will be hosted in Connacht the weekend after.

The GAA’s aim of increasing participation while maximising playing standards is to the fore in Féile, where almost 500 clubs, 1,500 coaches and 12,000 boys and girls will participate across each of the two weekends.

The logistical undertaking involved in organising a competition as large as this to the high standards set and reached year in, year out, should never be underestimated and the success of Féile each year can be attributed in no small part to the host clubs and local organising committees in both Connacht and Ulster.

The Eoghan Rua club will play games against their visitors on Friday afternoon before all three clubs head off to the Derry GAA centre at Owenbeg, Dungiven to participate in the official opening ceremony with some 78 other clubs.

Then on Saturday the on-field action continues with the Eoghan Rua and Ferbane/Belmont hurlers setting off to the Creggan club at Randalstown for the rest of their group games.

Meanwhile the camogs of Eoghan Rua and St Domnics have an early start as they travel to Carrickmore for their group games. Depending on how successful all the clubs are they will then be on their travels again on Sunday morning for the Cup and Shield semi-finals and finals.
