Busy weekend of superb action for the Carniny Youth teams

Last week saw a busy week for Carniny Teams with four midweek fixtures and nine of the club’s twelve teams in action at the weekend.

The highlight of the week was the senior team, Carniny Amateurs Irish Cup win over Amateur league side Wellington Rec.

The two under 9 teams played host to Roe Valley at the Showgrounds as did the Under 11s to Larne Youth at the same venue.

After a mid week loss to Ridgeway the U12s were back on track with an emphatic win against Warrenpoint whilst the U13s ran out losers to Ballinamallard in a tight 2-3 game.

The U13s who are new to the National League are coping well showing they are capable of mixing with anyone in the division.

The Under 14s suffered a home loss to Ballinamallard, whilst the 15s after a winning start mid week away at Institute lost out by a single goal to league favourites Derry Colts. The Under 16s had no game at the weekend but played earlier in the week in a 0-0 stalemate with Loughgall Youth.

U12 National League

Carniny Youth 2-3 Ridgeway Rovers: Carniny were looking to continue their winning form from last week but were halted in their tracks by a very strong and determined Ridgeway side.

missed chances came back to bite Carniny when in the space of 10 minutes Ridgeway were 3-0 up after poor defending. Carniny weren’t dead yet when after a Lynn free kick it was Anderson who finished calmly in the box to make it 3-1 just before half time.

With 15 minutes to go Graffin provided a great finish after being put through by White which left a nail biting finish.

U12 NATIONAL LEAGUE

Carniny Youth 8-2 Warrenpoint: It was White with the first after a nice turn inside and left foot finish. Lamont then got a rare goal from a long range effort. Clarke got the third after a goal mouth scramble. Farquhar got the fourth and Mearns the fifth. Lynn got the sixth and Hunter got a great seventh after cutting inside and finishing into the top corner.

White got another to make it eight and Mearns got his second and Carniny’s ninth. Graffin sprung into action and got 3 goals in quick succession.

Kyle Robinson came on at halftime and it wasn’t long before he got 2 goals of his own. Substitute Moore got a headed goal and then a low finish into the corner. The highlight of the day was a goal from Simpson which was his first in over a year.

Farquhar got his almost compulsory headed goal. Warrenpoint then got their first goal on the break. Moore got his hat trick with a great glancing header and Currie finished with a great drive . Clarke made it two ducks with a close range effort. Warrenpoint got their second and with the game coming to its close it was Hunter who ended the rout with another long range effort.

U13 National League

Carniny Youth 1-2 Cookstown Youth: As half time approached Cookstown took the lead from a set piece which was tucked away.

Cookstown doubled there lead with a low strike which gave Parker no chance. Logan powered down the line to cross into the box for Jamie Neeson to tuck away to bring Carniny back into it with 10 mins left to play.

U13 National League

Ballinamallard 3-2 Carniny Youth: The opening goal came from a near post corner from O’Boyle which was met by near post flick by Fleming. Ballinamallard equalized with a free kick, 1-1.

Carniny were rewarded a free kick and it was Matthew Kirk who stepped up to fire a hard low strike into the net.

2nd half began with the rain blowing in to Carniny’s faces and they knew they had to battle to keep their lead. But Ballinamallard used this to their advantage and soon had an equaliser to really set up a great end of the game.

As the game neared the last 5 mins it was heart break for Carniny as Ballinamallard took the lead after a goal mouth scramble saw the ball poked home from close range.

Carniny Youth 0-4 Ballinamallard

U15 National League

Institute 1-2 Carniny Youth: After ten minutes the Reds took the lead when a beautifully floated Andrew Adams free kick was neatly headed home by the completely unmarked Rhys O’Mullan from about six yards.

The equaliser came after ten minutes of the second half Institute got to the by line and a superb cross to the far post was bundled into the net.

In the last seconds, Jamie Houston’s first time shot flew into the top corner of the net.

Carniny Youth 0-1 Derry Colts: The Reds were dealt a blow half way through the opening period when Callum McGall’s firm back pass was only partially cleared by James McClean and when the ball came back to the penalty box it was headed superbly into the net.

U16 National League

Loughgall Youth 0-0 Carniny Youth: Neither team were able to break the deadlock and the first game of the new season finished in a scoreless draw.
