Busy Winter season for Young Farmers

IT has been a busy time over the winter season for Annaclone and Magherally YFC, with a range of meetings and competitions taking place in the months of January and February.

The month of January ended with the club's AGM, where the election of new club officials for the incoming 2010/2011 took place. The club would like to send out their thanks to Roberta Simmons from Rathfriland YFC who kindly agreed to Chair the meeting.

The new officials are as follows - President: David Hull; Club Leader: John Porter; Assistant Club Leader: Noel Savage; Club Secretary: Jane Cowan; Assistant Secretary: Andrew Sleator; Club Treasurer: Stephen Cowan; Assistant Treasurer: Stuart Allister; Public Relations Officer: Jonathan Sleator; Council Rep: Nelson Shanks; Projects Leader: Stuart Cromie; UFU Rep: Marcus Berry; SELB Coordinator: Stuart Allister; Over 18 Committee: Ian Porter, Geoff Thompson and Andrew Cowan; Under 18 Committee: Ruth Thompson, David Sleator and Gordon Cromie.

The month of February began with the club holding their annual travelling supper, which consists of a three course feast. The night began with starters at John Mathers’ house, followed by the main course served at Marcus Berry’s house.

A good night was rounded off at Andrew Cowan’s with a selection of deserts. Many thanks to the families who hosted the meals, the club could not have had such a successful night without your help and support.

The club's next outing was to Banbridge’s local golf driving range, which took place on February 25. Once again a great night’s craic was had by everyone and there was a chance for the golfers within the club to show off their skills.

More recently some members from the club travelled to Newtownards to compete in the County Down Young Host/Hostess competition, which took place on Monday March 2.

The challenge was to prepare a dish for two people using 1lb of mince. There was a great turnout to the competition by the club with a lot of the boys keen to show off their cooking skills and that it wasn’t just the girls who could rustle up something nice to eat in the kitchen.

Senior members of the club are travelling to the Tullyglass Hotel in Ballymena to celebrate the YFCU 80th Anniversary Dinner Dance on Saturday March 6. Members are looking forward to this night out and I am sure a great night’s craic will be had by all.
