Cambridge House cup dreams dashed

CAMBRIDGE House's dreams of progress in the Northern Bank Schools' Cup ended with a 24-5 defeat at the hands of Grosvenor Grammar on Saturday.

After last season's triumph in the Schools' Trophy, CH were looking to move up a level and progress into the third round proper of the main competition this time around, but they bowed out with a whimper.

In a match sponsored by Wallace's Schoolwear, Grosvenor dominated the first half utilising their big strong forward pack in the heavy conditions and 12-0 at the interval was testament to Cambridge's tireless tackling under endless pressure. There was one glaring overlap for the Ballymena side which would have given them points on the board against the run of play, but it wasn't taken.

Cambridge House were revitalised by some intense exhortation from the management during the interval and in the second half for the opening 15 minutes pressed relentlessly and deservedly scored through Josh Whann.

The need then is to follow this up and cement possession from the re-start, but they fumbled and allowed Grosvenor a line-out from which they mauled over for a key score, the conversion followed and having over-ran their opponents for that opening quarter,Cambridge House found themselves even further behind 19-5.

The remainder of the match followed the first half trend and one more forward push created another try for Grosvenor, who then played out time with disarming ease.

Cambridge House will now look to re-group and emulate their victory in the subsidiary Trophy section of the Schools Cup.
