Campbell hoping for successful season for Rainey OB

FOLLOWING their opening day defeat to Ballymena in the Ulster Senior League, coach Chris Campbell was quick to praise his side after their first game of the season and he is looking forward to another exciting season.

“We have had a great pre-season and everybody was really looking forward to getting the season started. We have made some great additions to the panel and we have added a lot more strength in depth to the side.”

Campbell, who will be assisted by Richard Boyd, has sealed the signatures of a number of students and former schoolboy players and he believes that alongside the ‘old guard ‘ they will provide Rainey with a much stronger squad.

In the 2010/2011 campaign, Rainey achieved a hugely respectable top half finish in both the Ulster Senior League and the All Ireland League Division 2B.

“Last season we had a few injury problems and that prevented us getting off to the best possible start. However, this season we have added a number of quality players and I feel that we can better our 6th place finish in the All Ireland League. I honestly think we can have a good campaign and perhaps have an outside chance of promotion. I am really looking forward to getting our All Ireland campaign under-way with a Ulster derby against Ards RFC.”

Rainey start their All Ireland campaign at home to Ards on the 1st October. However, before then Campbell will be hoping his side can enjoy the challenge of facing the likes of local rivals Dungannon, Ballymena and Belfast Harlequins.

“We thoroughly enjoy the challenge of playing the top clubs in Ulster and this year we are placing a lot more emphasis on getting the season off to a good start by performing well in the Ulster Senior League.”

In addition, Rainey also have an interesting cup tie to look forward to when they take on Dungannon in the First Trust Bank Senior Cup on Saturday 10th September.
