Camps were a success

TWO successful youth camps were held over the past two weeks at the Lurgan green in the park.

The first one was staged by a partnership between the Parks Department and the local club with the second camp for 11–16 year olds being in Lurgan hands.

Attendance was good on most days with it peaking at 24 on one of the days last week with the teenagers mostly being from the YMCA.

A lot of sessions were enhanced by the presence of young under 25 Internationals, Kirstofor Matchett and Reece Millar, along with club coaches.

Young Matchett and Millar, who meet each other in a semi-final in this year’s NIBA Youth Singles Championship, are great examples of those who have come through from the original youth camps to reach their high standard of success.

The coaches and leaders have already noted some good prospects during the camps and would hope that they will accept the club’s open invitation to return to the practices any evening during the rest of the season.

They can check the availability of coaches and rinks on a particular night by telephoning the club’s youth co-ordinator, David Millar at 07890 676 282. They are being offered free membership for the rest of the season.
