Captain's charity event won by Henry

THE annual Captain's Charity event with Club Captain David Bamford nominating Cancer Relief, attracted a good entry at Kilrea Golf Club.

Three players shot 41 points and after countback, the winner was competition secretary, James Henry.

James (17) shot 18 points on the front nine but caught fire after turning for home, making three birdies in four holes to card 23 points.

Brendan O’Boyle (16) was forced into second place courtesy of his 21 points on the back nine. That left F.B Madden (15) in third place, after a further break of tie.

John Brown (9) was fourth with 40 points and Terry Rogers (12) was fifth with 39 points.

The following day the stableford competition was won by Gerard Donaghy (16) with 44 points.

In second place was Vinny McAteer (20) with 39 points and Roger Quoin (20) was third with 37 points.

Kilrea Ladies Branch have enjoyed some great success in team competition in recent weeks.

Agnes Patterson (Team Captain) and her Junior Foursomes squad beat Moyola Park GC to advance to round three in the AA Insurance Championships.

In the Irish Mail Trophy Sandra Millar and Catherine O'Donnell advanced to the last 16 with victory away at Greencastle.

In the AA Insurance championships, Bridie McCloskey’s team proved too strong for Ardglass in round two. Bridie’s team will face Holywood GC in the next round.

Unfortunately, Nuala Friel’s Intermediate Cup squad went out of the competition at the hands of Kilkeel.

Meanwhile, the ladies branch at Kilrea is hosting a ‘Golf Taster session’ on Monday, June 14 from 7pm-9pm.

Tony Mulholland, PGA Golf Professional, will be on hand to offer some coaching advice which is free for ladies of all ages and experience.

Equipment and light refreshments will be provided.

The Kilrea GUI Irish Mixed Foursomes team reached the match-play rounds of the event after qualifying at Greenacres.
