Captain's Day at Kilrea Manor

Golf

CAPTAIN’S Day was held last Saturday at the Kilrea Manor Golf Club, and Captain Seamus Hasson welcomed all the members and many visitors who turned up to play, including no less than 18 ladies.

Considering that they no longer have a ladies section, this represented a very welcome support for the Captain, and organisers extend their thanks to them for taking part.

Perhaps this might trigger an effort to get the Ladies section of the Club up and running again. The weather was reasonably kind and the course was looking its best, thanks to the hard work of Stephen the head green keeper and his staff. The greens were exceptional , the best ever.

Seamus was ably supported by his wife Kate and family , and all the players were generously treated to refreshments before going out and after they finished. Thanks to them for all their hard work and organisation.

As is custom, the Captain's Dinner will be held later on Friday 6 August, when all the prize winners will be expected to attend to receive their trophys.

The club wish to thank those visitors from the other Clubs who came and helped to make the day so enjoyable, such as Old Kilrea, Ballycastle, Brown Trout, Gracehill and Faughen Valley ,Omagh and several Belfast clubs.

The nearest to the pins at the 3rd and 17th were Colin Elliott and Barney Devine respectively.

The longest drive prize was won by Tom Boyd from The Brown Trout Club.

The visitors prize was won by Mat Roxborough, an ex member now playing at Old Kilrea, and runner up was Gareth Farmer. The Ladies Prize went to Una Bradley and runner up was Mary Duffin from Ballycastle.

Finally, surprisingly, only 4 twos were recorded by Chris Darragh and Seamus Maguire at the 1st, Tony Mc Lernon at the 4th, and Stephen Margey at the 12th.
