Caroline’s marathon effort for local charity

A MULTI-TALENTED Ballymena woman is set to put her body on the line in aid of a charity which she holds close to her heart.

Twenty two year Caroline Flanaghan will line up with many of the worlds top athletes on Monday 31st October as she competes in the Dublin City Marathon.

Kind hearted Caroline will be making this Marathon effort in a bid to raise funds for Ballymena’s George Sloan centre.

The centre provides day care to adults with varying degrees of learning disabilities, autism, challenging behaviour, mental health problems and a specialist service for people with multiple and profound learning disabilities.

The centre aims to help individuals live a full life and recognises that people with a learning disability should have more control and independence.

Caroline who is a talented runner and musician has spent the last four years living in Dublin where she attended Trinity College from where she has recently graduated with a music education degree.

When based in Dublin Caroline took up running and was an enthuastic member of Trinity College running club.

Since returning to her native Ballymena in the summer Caroline has joined Fitness First Running Club and is currently fine tuning for her big day under the guidance of Personal Trainer and Athletics coach Gregory Walsh.

She is currently juggling the demands of marathon preparations with a part time role as a music teacher at her former school Saint Louis Grammer. She is continuing her studies at Queens University where she is undertaking a masters in education.
