'Carsie' passes on his expertise

COLERAINE FC's flying winger, Stephen Carson, is hoping to pass some of his know how on to the County Antrim Premier squad this week.

The former Glasgow Rangers man and Milk Cup old boy is helping out his home county following an invitation by one of his old coaches.

"Stefan Seaton, who was one of the coaches at St Andrew's, which was the boys club I played for in Belfast, asked me to come on board last year," explained Stephen.

"I did all the training with the guys but unfortunately with going to Australia I didn't get to the finals.

"So I wanted to do it this year. We did a lot of work during the summer before I came back to Coleraine and I'm looking forward to it starting now.

"I really enjoying working with young players but it's something which is still on the back burner as I still want to be a player first and foremost.

"I'm doing it to get good experience and I feel that I have something to offer.

"As I say my main focus in still Coleraine, but it's nice though to go away for a week and be part of something different."

Carson is hopeful his young charges can progress to the kock-out stages, but he knows they can't afford to take anything for granted.

"We're up against Donegal Schools and South Coast Bayern in the opening two games," said Stephen.

"We're hopeful of progressing, but you have to give these teams respect and not take anything for granted, but we're very hopeful.

"We have a few very promising young players in the squad and I've been keeping my eye on them. Most of them are at Glentoran though.

"But the proof of the pudding will be this week when we see how they perform.

"Hopefully they'll take their opportunity and who knows they might even end up across the water."
