Castle aim to be kings of north Antrim

Indoor Hurling League

BALLYCASTLE will play Creggan in next week’s Division 1 final of the North Antrim Under 12 Indoor Hurling League after both teams came out on top of Saturday’s round of league games at Cross & Passion College, Ballycastle.

The young McQuillans came through the day undefeated, though they were held to a draw in their final game of the day against Slaughtneil. Creggan made a great recovery after drawing their opening game with Dungiven, and losing their second match to Ballycastle they put together four wins on the trot to just pip Dungiven to the final spot.

Glenshesk will meet North Antrim rivals Cushendun in the Division 2 final after they came through as the top team in Our Lady of Lourdes, Ballymoney.

Glenshesk were unbeaten all day, winning five of their games and drawing one (against Loughgiel 2nds) while Cushendun won their first four before drawing with Cushendall and losing to Creggan in the final game. What makes the young Emmets’ performance so special is the fact that this is their second string outfit, a fine achievement indeed.

Cushendall 2nds will also appear in a final next weekend when they take on Buncrana for the Division 3 crown. The Donegal boys will start as favourites after beating the Ruairi Og in 5-1 in the Saturday’s league section, but as many team have proved in the past in this competition those league results count for nothing when to comes to finals day.

In Division 4 at St Patrick’s College, Ballymena All Saints and St Enda’s 2nds were the teams who made it through to the final. All Saints were in top scoring form as they fired in no less than 27 goals in their five wins and must go into the final as favourites after beating the Glengormley boys 5-0 in their league clash. That was in the opening game of the day and St Enda’s deserve the highest of praise for bouncing back to make it to the final.
