Castle Bar cruise to McAdam Cup victory as pool season hits it climax

The pool season drew to an exciting end on Tuesday night as the Castle Bar won the Brendan McAdam Cup final in Mulhollands Bar Dromore.

The final was as one sided as could be as the Gilford side went one better than last year.

It was a long, hard season in both divisions of the McLean Bookmakers sponsored Pool League, with Higgins’ winning their first ever Premier League title by the narrowest of margins over O’Reillys’ and the First Division going to a play off between The Ballymore Inn and the Anglers Rest.

The Ballymore came through that play off and completed the First Division double with a great win in the cup final against the Red Star, so it was a very impressive first season for the Tandregee team.]

They also picked up first prize in the triples tournament ant the runners up prize in the individuals in the form of Jason Crozier, who also won the First Division top potter prize.

The Premier League accolades were spread a wee bit better as Higgins won the title. There was doubles success for the Scarva street side as Tony Greenan and Noel Meara came out on top in that competition. Tony Greenan also picked up the Premier league top potter award on Tuesday night.

“It was all in all a fantastic season and the pool committee would like to take this opportunity to thank a few people,” said a league spokesperson.

“Our main sponsors, McLean bookmakers who have been very generous in their sponsorship over the past few years and we certainly hope that will continue, Martin Mulholland and his staff for all their support with the individuals and Brendan McAdam Cup comps’ also for providing the venue for the presentation night.

“Adrian Higgins’ for his sponsorship of the first division cup and Owen Cull for his backing of the Kevin McGrath Memorial Sheild.

“But most of all we have to say a huge thank you to all the pool players for their support week in week out because without their dedication for turning up week after week there would be no pool league. I would also like to thank all the other committee members for their hard work,”
