CO Derry hosted the Ulster Feile Peil na nOg on Saturday. The boys travelled to Drumsurn and recorded big wins against the hosts and Ballymacnab (Armagh) but couldn’t replicate those performances later in the day when losing narrowly to Dungiven.

Meanwhile the Girls’ team, which was already weakened by injury, hosted Buncrana (Donegal) and Mullabrack (Armagh). St Malachy’s played some great football in hot conditions to easily top a Group in which the standard of sportsmanship is worth noting. The only disappointment was an injury to Aoife early in the first game. The Semi-final saw Claudy run up a big halftime lead but the girls eventually found their form and recorded another good win. This set up a Final against favourites Clonoe (Tyrone).

The girls gave as good as they got and reached the interval on level terms but eventually the exertions of the day took their toll and the strong visiting team built up a winning lead.

Castledawson Senior camogs came up against a determined Swatragh on Friday night. Castledawson were without the services of experience player Annie Bovil but they were able to welcome back Leona Brown and Johanne Mullan from injury.

Swatragh got off to a dream start with a goal and a number of points before Castledawson got on the score board with a fine individual point from half back Sinead Heaney. Eilish Keenan’s honesty and work ethic was well rewarded when she scored a goal to give Castledawson the boost that they needed.

At the other end the Swatragh forwards were doing damage and the half finished Swatragh 2-6 Castedawson 1-1. It was a gritty Castledawson side who took to the field in the second half bolstered by Johanne Mullan and Maoliosa O’Callaghan. Maoliosa scored a well taken goal and there were points from Eilish Keenan and a Katie McAnenly free. The Castledawson defence did their best to keep the Swatragh forwards at bay and scored 1-2. Caoimhe McCoy and Roisin Hawe got through a mountain of work and didn’t deserve to be on the losing side.
