Castlerock exit Junior Cup

CASTLEROCK'S superb run in the IBA Junior Cup came to an end at the quarter-final stage when they were knocked out at home to Old Bleach.

The Randalstown club booked their place in the semi-final with a 74-67 victory.

The tie was a great battle throughout with both teams chalking up two rinks wins apiece.

Old Bleach’s winning rinks were skipped by Willie Fullerton, who had a very good 11 shot win over Victor Callaghan and John O’Kane who beat Clive Hutchinson by five shots.

Replying for the seasiders were Liam McLaughlin who overcame Martin Robb by four shots and Philip Kirk who was a five shot winner over Felix Robb.

Among the spectators was IBA president and Old Bleach member, Tom McIlvenna.

Castlerock 67, Old Bleach 74 - L McLaughlin 18, M Robb 14; V Callaghan 13, W Fullerton 24; P Kirk 20, F Robb 15; C Hutchinson 16, J O’Kane 21.

* There are two Provincial bowling clubs left in the quarter-finals of the IBA Senior Cup.

Portrush have a plum draw at home to four-time winner and holders Dunbarton.

This should be an absolute cracker and the Portrush lads will be confident of making home advantage tell on the day.

Ballymoney are also at home to Larne, who have also won the trophy on four occasions.

The Toon have been flying in the league and will be quietly confident of progressing to the semi-finals.

There will also be one Provincial club guaranteed to reach the last four of the Irish Junior Cup.

Cookstown host three-times winners Ballymoney and this is one that could go either way.
